Digital Arts and Culinary Academy

Oakland, California

The Digital Arts and Culinary Academy (DACA) is a state-of-the-art Oakland Parks, Recreation, and Youth Development facility designed to give teens an opportunity to learn, grow, and build self-confidence. As part of the Rainbow Teen Center, the programs include music and video production classes, healthy cooking classes, and gardening education for kids and teens and garden beds for seniors to cultivate.

The proposed garden improvements increase the gardening space, creating more areas to grow food to be used in culinary classes and pollinator-friendly plants to increase yields. Included are an ADA-accessible planter and picnic table in a new paved patio outdoor room for socializing and informal jam sessions for the musicians in the music program.
