BART is partnering with the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing (MOH) to redevelop a portion of the Balboa Park Station into housing, with an improved passenger drop-off, and a pedestrian plaza that facilitates transfers from BART to Muni. The plaza includes several accessibility and safety improvements for pedestrians at this very busy BART station. 

MMP skillfully programmed and designed the new entry plaza as a multiservice area to enhance the area’s circulation and improve accessibility and safety for pedestrians. The needs of drop-off areas, transit and maintenance are balanced with those of a new urban plaza with amenities for flexible use to serve the residential development, station and adjacent TOD commercial retail area. MMP is leading the design and assisting with negotiations between BART, San Francisco MOH, Muni, and the SFMTA to develop a vibrant and vital addition to this thriving and rapidly changing neighborhood.
